While so many people deal with body image issues on a daily basis, for some it develops into a much more serious matter. Amy Howe from Kingsville, Ontario suffered in silence from both bulimia and anorexia, convinced that it was necessary to binge and purge in order to attain her image goals. At 23, Amy was at a breaking point—practically killing herself in the gym while consuming strictly 700 calories per day. After 10 years of her eating disorder ruling her life, Amy finally reached a breaking point and knew she had to get healthy.
Amy found the inspiration to transform her body in a healthy way as she set the goal of entering a fitness show. To train for this she quickly learned that proper nutrition is key to fuel workouts and gain muscle. For muscle protein synthesis, the body needs the right combination of protein, amino acids, and bio-active peptides. This can only be achieved through a balanced and conscientious diet—no more starving yourself! Amy supplements her intake with Nutrabolics’ HYDROPURE Protein powder, alongside the yummy peach mango BCAAs. If you eat the right things and workout correctly, you can actually become leaner while eating more food. This realization blew Amy’s eating disorder right out of the water.
In order to develop physically, Amy shares, she first had to change her outlook mentally. “Deprivation, starvation, and negative thinking do not lead to positive changes. It is equally important to understand that natural change takes time, so you have to be fully dedicated to your goals.” Through transforming her body and her attitude, Amy has cultivated the life she’s always dreamed of. She currently runs two successful fitness studios and has recently started a business for healthy lifestyle coaching. Amy has managed to push through an unhealthy relationship with food and come out the other side as a competitive bodybuilder and nutrition guru. She has done a complete 180, from letting a disorder dominate her reality to a strong young woman who is very much in control. She is a role model not only for her clients, but for anyone hoping to shake their preconceived notions of the ideal body and take back their life.
